Review: FISU World University Games 2025 – Gymnastics at the highest level

From July 16 to 27, 2025, the Rhein-Ruhr region took on an international flair – as the FISU World University Games came to town! For the first time since 1989 (back then in Duisburg), the largest multi-sport event for university students returned to Germany. Around 8,500 participants from over 150 countries came together – and right at the heart of it: Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics, held at Messe Essen. A true highlight, not just for spectators but also for SPIETH Gymnastics – as the official equipment supplier for both disciplines.

Together on the gymnastics floor – with SPIETH

Whether on the parallel bars, the balance beam, or with hoop and ribbon – top athletes from all over the world showed what they’re made of. And all this while managing a double challenge: alongside intense training sessions, they also juggle exams, seminars, and coursework. 👉 At SPIETH, we have the utmost respect for that.

The performances we witnessed – technically, physically, mentally – were not only impressive from a sporting perspective, but also a testament to incredible discipline, organization, and passion. We are proud to support these athletes with our equipment.

Performance meets diversity

What makes the World University Games so special? It’s not just about medals. It’s about exchange, fair play, and mutual respect – among athletes, universities, and nations alike.
Whether reaching the finals or achieving a personal best – every individual deserves recognition for balancing university life with elite sports.

“Everybody is all in” – the event’s motto could be felt across the entire region. Not just in the arenas, but also at concerts, cultural events, and the FISU Conference on sustainability and mental health.

A look inside the arenas

  • Artistic Gymnastics: From July 22 to 26, Hall 3 saw spectacular routines, clean landings, and captivating team performances. Particularly strong: Japan and Korea in the men’s competition, but European athletes also held their own. A standout moment for Germany: Emma Malewski won bronze on the balance beam – a strong and focused performance, rewarded with well-deserved applause (and a medal). Congratulations! 👏
  • Rhythmic Gymnastics: From July 17 to 19, the athletes captivated the audience in Hall 4 – among them, German competitor Margarita Kolosov, who managed to reach the ball final after a nervous start.

SPIETH at the heart of it all

As a long-time supplier in international gymnastics, experiencing the World University Games on home soil was truly special for us.
What remains:
✅ Pride in being part of this unique event
✅ Admiration and deep respect for all those who balance sports and academics with such dedication

The FISU Games 2025 once again proved: gymnastics thrives on commitment, passion, and diversity – and on the people who make it all possible. Our deepest respect goes to all participants who combine top athletic performance with their studies – day in, day out. Thank you to each of you, and to the entire gymnastics community. See you at the next competition!
